I loved how cute it was. I have to say that Herbert is gentle and caring with Pip and it's so adorable how they are with each other in the most subtle way.
Great Expectations was required reading for me in school, and as a young queer kid, I couldn't help but feel like Herbert and Pip's relationship was something to be coveted, and held close to my heart. I think that reading them as either not-quite-lovers in this era, is very lovely. I'm very glad to see I'm not the only one! Thank you for sharing this, the way you write Herbert's inner dialogue is really in character, and I enjoyed the endings a lot :) !!!
This is lovely! I've always read that sort of feeling into Herbert when reading that book, and it's so lovely to read this scene (and all of the little asides!) through his perspective. :)
I appreciate the extra reading list provided, I'll definitely be checking that out- exactly the sort of analysis I'd love to look into.
I haven't really read any of Dickens' classic novels, always forgotten and drown in the evergrowing wishlist of books... But this recount through Herbert's perspective sure brings that particular scene to feel more intimate and pushes me to read the original work.

I really loved this! It got me into Great Expectations :)
Played this in my college Victorian lit class- this is very sweet and you offer some great insight into Herbert's character
Thank you for the lovely comment! The fact that people are playing this game in class has made my day :)
